“No” is a complete sentence

There are too many forces in the world, seen and unseen, that are trying to get you off track, and suck you into the darkness. Let this be your new sentence:

NO!

This is a powerful two letter sentence. Darkness is always trying to overpower the light. Learn how to say no, and put it in its place. Not today Satan! This is war! I am going to use the following examples in God’s creation to illustrate my point.

Black Hole

A black hole is a region in space that has such a strong gravitational pull that nothing, even light, can escape from it. The boundary of the region from which no escape is possible is called the event horizon. The event horizon has an enormous effect on the fate and circumstance of an object crossing it. Not only can light not escape a black hole, it does not allow light to be reflected either.

Tar pits

A famous tar pit is located in Hancock Park in urban Los Angeles. Natural asphalt, or tar, has been seeping up in this area for a very long time. The bubbling deposits of the asphalt were and are thick enough to trap animals, who could not escape its grasp, and would eventually die.

Quicksand

Quicksand forms in water saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquefied soil with a spongy, fluid-like texture, that looses strength and cannot support any weight. A person stepping into it will start to sink. In order to move in quicksand, you need to apply sufficient pressure on the compacted sand. The force necessary to do this would require the same amount of force needed to lift a car. Continued or panicked movement may cause a person to sink further. Which further impairs movement and can lead to a situation where other factors such as weather exposure, dehydration, hypothermia, tides or predators may harm a trapped person.

I’m sure we can all recall situations in our lives where we have felt caught in a black hole, tar pit, or quicksand. With no visible relief in sight. We are trapped in the muck and the mire. (Mire-a heavy often deep mud or slush. [MW]) But we don’t have to remain there because we have God on our side!

“He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and the mire; he sets my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” (Ps. 40:2 [NIV])

“Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.” (Ps. 69:14-15 [NIV])

“I [Jesus] am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” (Acts 26:18 [NIV])

“Life came into being because of him, for his life is light for all humanity. And this Living Expression is the Light that bursts through gloom—the Light that darkness could not diminish.” (John 1:5 [TPT])

“Then Jesus said, ‘I am light to the world and those who embrace me will experience life-giving light and they will never walk in darkness.’” (John 8:12 [TPT])

“This is the life-giving message we heard him share and it’s still ringing in our ears. We now repeat these words to you: God is pure light. You will never find a trace of darkness in him. If we claim we share life with him, but keep walking in the realm of darkness, we’re fooling ourselves and not living the truth. But if we keep living in the pure light that surrounds him, we share unbroken fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, continually cleanses us from sin.” (1 John 1:5-7 [TPT])

So we do not have to remain trapped in a black hole, tar pit or quicksand. Steer clear of the event horizons in your life. We just need to say no to darkness and yes to Light. His Light overcomes every darkness. His Light overcomes every sticky situation we find ourselves in. We just need to ask and believe.

So just like the Nike slogan, “Just say no.” And mean it! Stand forever in the Light my friends!
