Here we go again!

Please forgive me in advance for this rant, but I am so mad at the devil right now I could spit! I ask you, is nothing sacred to him? (Rhetorical question, of course!) God and Jesus do amazing things and the devil downplays them and steals their thunder. A few examples: Jesus is born as a human, the devil turns it into “Happy Holidays” and commercialism. Jesus dies and is resurrected, the devil replaces that with the “Easter Bunny” where kids hunt for colored eggs and candy.

The one celebrated today is All Hallows Eve. The church would hold a vigil where worshipers would prepare themselves with prayer and fasting prior to the feast day itself. Hallow is to render or treat as holy. To set apart for sacred use; to hold sacred; to reverence as holy.

In Exodus 20, God is giving Moses the Ten Commandments. The fourth one is to remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. A day of rest dedicated to the LORD your God. God blesses the Sabbath day and set it apart as hallowed.

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, he started with, “Our Father who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.” (Matt 6:9)

And what does the devil twist it into? Halloween! The evening of October 31st observed by children in merrymaking, wearing costumes and getting candy. Certainly not with prayer and fasting!

So if here we go again, then here I go again. I’m re-posting my poem especially created last year to put the focus back onto the One who deserves all our praise, Jesus.

Twas the night before Halloween and I had such a fright,
I witnessed my mess and considered my plight.
I just settled down with my sins on my chest,
If I didn’t confess them, there would be no rest.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter.
And what to my wondering eyes did I see?
But Jesus my Lord who died to save me!
The sight of Him made me giddy with joy,
I knew right then that this was no ploy.
With a wink of His eye, and a nod of His head,
Soon gave me hope, there was nothing to dread.

He went at my sins, all bunched in a ball,
and said “dash away, dash away, dash away all.”
He then spoke not word but went right to His work
and vanquished the devil, who’s a bit of a jerk.
And laying His finger aside of His nose,

“Your fresh and clean soul I have now exposed.”

Up to heaven He rose in the clouds with no flaw,

while I fell to my knees and worshiped in awe.

So my friends, feel free to share this and pass it around so we can tell the devil, not today! There, now I don’t feel like spitting anymore.

  1. Please remember these few rules, if you once again decide to spit…..the water fountain is NOT a spittoon. The weather has been windy lately, please spit in the proper direction to prevent said devil from….spitting in YOUR face!

  2. God made you just fine, godstillspeakstoday14. And I appreciated your poem. Yes, October, November and December are full of holidays. Christians have to be aware of which ones to celebrate. But if you are the one that celebrates with children or so-so-believers, it can become a challenge. Don’t forget, Jesus associated with a harlot, two tax collectors, a liar, a thief, visited an area that was full of demons and me. Where of, I am glad. Amen!
