I’m melted butter

I’m sure you can agree. Some mornings you are slower to wake up than others. Well, as I was waiting for the coffee to brew, I started my water for oatmeal. My husband suggested putting in a pat of butter to make it savory. So I did. Then the physics lesson in thermodynamics began. (I guess I was awake enough to know I was getting a physics lesson in thermodynamics!)

I put the pat of butter in the cold water and turned on the heat. Groggy as I was, I just stood there and watched. As the butter began to melt, the circle of butter began to rotate counterclockwise. In addition, as the water heated up, small bubbles of air began to come to the surface and gravitated to the butter until a bunch of bubbles began to congregate around it.

I was fascinated and had to know the science behind why the boiling water and melted butter were behaving in such a fashion. (Please feel free to try this experiment at home for yourself, it is pretty cool to behold.)

The melting of the butter occurs to to loss of air. As the air escapes it expands and floats on the water until the heat of the water causes it to emulsify. Emulsification is the process of the breaking down of the larger fat globules into smaller particles which then allows the fat and the water to mix by lowering surface tension.

Thermodynamics is the branch of physics that deal with heat and temperature and the energy they generate. The energy caused by that heat is the measured property that transfers to an object in order for it to work on it and produce the outcome.

At room temperature there isn’t enough energy in the heat to excite the vibration of the molecules of the water. But once flame is applied, the water begins to boil, exciting the molecules of the water to vibrate which caused them to spin counterclockwise.

Since the butter was melting due to loss of air, the small bubbles of escaping air from the boiling water gravitated toward it and began to cling to it.

Which makes me want to be melted butter! I want the thermodynamics of God to energize me to when I share my breath (air) by speaking the wonders of what God is doing in my life. It emulsifies me which allows my spirit to mix with their spirit. I want people to be the small bubbles excited by the vibrations of Jesus escaping from me to congregate around me, so we can spin together in the joy of the love Jesus has for us. The fact that He would rather die as a man, than spend eternity without me (and you) fills me with thermodynamic awe and wonder!

“This will fulfill what the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have destined you to become a beacon light for the nations and release salvation to the ends of the earth!’” (Acts 13:47 [TPT])

So let’s show the world physics is fun! Melted butter in boiling water can speak to your heart if you allow it. All the wonders of God’s creations can do the same, just open your eyes, pay attention and see the glory!

And by no means think of calling me a larger fat globule! I’m the small fat particles if you please!
