Boomerang

I have recently been shown how to live in a win-win scenario. It has taken me a few weeks of pondering and using it to come to know they joy that is involved when I do. And it all revolves around the boomerang principle.

The first thing that makes a boomerang different from a regular piece of wood is that it has at least two component parts, whereas a straight piece of wood is only one unit. The two pieces are specially crafted, lightweight pieces of wood, plastic or other material. Traditionally, these are basically two wings connected together in one banana-shaped unit. This makes the boomerang spin about a central point, stabilizing its motion as it travels through the air.

Lately I have been going through some stressful things, where neighbors have been downright un-neighborly. Just out of the clear blue, with no provocation, and I feel as if they are my enemy based on how they are behaving.

Which reminded me that God commands me to love my enemies. To bless them and not curse them. (See Rom.12:14) To bless those who curse me and pray for those who mistreat me. (See Luke 6:28)

Then in Romans 12:19 it tells me not to take vengeance into my own hands, but that I am to let God be the judge and deal with them. He will repay. (My paraphrase) Then verse 20 tells me “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in doing so I will heap coals of fire on his head.” In the context of the verse it means “put to shame,” or “make one painfully conscious of his guilt.”

To me this seems an impossible task. Can’t I simply just ignore them and hope they go away? But to love them? Ewwww! I have no desire to do that. But that’s what drives me to depend solely on Holy Spirit to live through me and have the love of God pour out to them. In His Power I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. (See Phil. 4:13)

So I am declaring out loud every day that God will bless my enemies. My theory is that if they are blessed, their lives will be more fulfilling to the point where they no longer feel the need to be ugly to me. I pray a blessing of peace on their home. “If the home is deserving, let you peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.” (Matt. 10:13 [NIV]) Because if they are not worthy, the peace of my blessing returns to me.

This is where the win-win boomerang effect comes in. I bless them, being obedient to what God is commanding me to do, I get blessed by God for being obedient. If by their continued actions, they are judged unworthy of the blessing, God will return it to me. I am blessed again. Double blessing!

I know God sees all. I know he is angry with my enemies because they have turned their backs on Him and not spoken the truth about Him, or the truth about me. But when I pray on their behalf, the Lord will accept my prayer, and will restore my health, wealth, and happiness. In fact, The Lord will give me twice as much as I had before. (See Job 42:7-10)

“So I am not giving up. I will stick around and see what God will do. I will wait for God to make things right. I’m counting on God to listen to me.” (Micah 7:7 [MSG])

I will not have to fight this battle. I will take up my positions and stand firm. I will see the deliverance the Lord will give me. I will not live afraid or stressed out. I will not be discouraged. I can go out and face them with love in my heart, because the Lord is with me. (Based on II Chron. 20:17 [NIV])

So I shall continue to be obedient and throw my boomerang blessings out there. My boomerang has two component parts—God and me. It revolves around a central point that stabilizes my life—declaring and being obedient to the Word of God. If the blessings stick to the neighbors, good. If not, and they return to me, good too. Win-win.

  1. You had me at “ win-win scenario.” 😇

Neighbors being nasty for no apparent reason? Sounds like spiritual warfare. But, thanks to the boomerang principle, it doesn’t matter what their motive is. Your eyes and ears are on God; and as long as you do what He says (pray for and bless your enemies) the win-win rule applies.

Actually, this is timely information. Someone has been nasty to me recently. And for no good reason. I’ve been praying for this person, but not asking God to bless their home with peace. Lesson learned. Boomerang prayers commenced.🪃

Thank you very much for sharing. And thank God for what He showed you!

    1. My posts are usually something I’m learning first, and then I get directed to share them here. God is so very good how He does that! And yes, I agree on the spiritual warfare. I believe it is just satan’s tactics to distract me from my purpose of sharing what I am learning. Not today satan!

  2. I’ll share a quote from last week’s sermon: St. Josemaría Escrivá says: “Don’t waste your time and your energy — which belong to God — throwing stones at the dogs that bark at you on your way. Ignore them.” (The Way, #14) That said, I’m not calling your neighbors dogs! but I think you know that. The point is the time and energy we expend during such trials. It sounds to me that you’ve got it sorted out with your focus on God and that is what’s important.

“No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”
    (Isaiah 54:17)

    1. I appreciate you more than you know for this! It is really helping me. And no, my neighbors are not dogs, dogs have unconditional love and would not behave in such a fashion as these. I will continue to ignore them and pray blessings over them and let God deal with them.
