Close call

Have you ever had a close call, one where it happened so fast, your life did not have even have a chance to pass before your eyes? Well I did on Thursday.

My husband left at 7:30 in the morning to drive over and pick up a load of feed, He was not due back until 6 or 7 that evening. I went out to do the morning chores and started with raking up the hay for the horses. The hay ring is tied to the fence and I was on one side raking it up when the two horses came up. Nothing I have not done a million times before. But the mare had been in heat recently and was very, let’s say, “grumpy.” She has been bullying our gelding who now backs up to get out of her way. Well that happened that morning and he freaked out and started backing up toward me, fast. I yelled, but too late. He bumped me with his backside and knocked me flat on my back. They were still acting in a frenzy and all I could see above me were stomping hooves. At that moment, all I could think of was I’m going to be stomped pretty bad, seriously hurt, or dead very, very soon.

Then suddenly the horses were gone. I know God sent His angels to do that. It took me about 5 minutes to get up off the ground, as I hit my head pretty bad, and was pretty woozy and wobbly. I made it back into the house and had to sit for a minute, catch my breath, and praise God for saving me!

All in all, my head still hurts, it has a pretty good lump on it, but nothing was broken. I’m sore all over, but no bruises. I am just flat out overwhelmed at the goodness of God.

Then after a few more minutes, I remembered my memory verse for this week, and knew this was going to be my post for today. How could I not?

“I told them about how gracious the hand of God has been on me.” (Neh. 2:18a [NLT])

So that’s what I’m doing for all of you who read this post.

Then to top it all off, I read this in this morning’s devotional.

“Let everyone bless God and sing his praises; for he holds our lives in his hands, and he holds our feet to the path. You sent troops to ride across our broken bodies. We went through fire and flood. But in the end, you brought us into wealth and great abundance.”

“Come and hear, all of you who reverence the Lord, and I will tell you what he did for me: For I cried to him for help with praises ready on my tongue. But he listened! He heard my prayer! He paid attention to it! Blessed be God, who didn’t turn away when I was praying and didn’t refuse me his kindness and love.” (Psalm 66:8-20 [TLB])

Guess which line came off the page at me! Yup, sending troops who were on horseback to ride across our broken bodies. I just had to laugh! God’s timing is just priceless! Been there, done that, almost got that t-shirt!

But I am praising God for saving me with His kindness and love. And he did bring me out with great abundance, for my body is not broken, nor am I dead.

All I’ve got to say is, I’m going to be more careful in what verses I choose to memorize in the future!

  1. I can picture a horse wrangling angel (or two) moving your gelding and mare out of the way. Personally, I’ve gotten between a dairy cow and the wall before. It hurts when there’s not enough room for you and Elsie. I’m glad you are safe and sound. Thank God!

      1. Yes I did, but only with the girls. I was always more cautious around the bulls. But a small bull playfully butted me into a barbed wire fence once. I was holding a hot shot at the time, but wisely chose not to use it. It was only 50 from the barn, and I made it without any further trouble. God was watching out for me!

  2. Praise God for sending his angels to get the horses away from you. You still have your destiny to fulfill! May you heal quickly and the pain in your head leave now. It is time for your wealth and great abundance. \o/

  3. Love the photo you chose – lol. Glad you are ok, just keep an eye on yourself, some bruises and pains show up days later, especially as we get older. I’m with you on the speaking healing scriptures. We can defy natural ailments and effects with them. Two cheers (prayers) for speedy recovery. Hugs.

    1. Thanks for your words of encouragement! I am feeling a little more tender in spots today, as I am of a certain age that is especially older (62) And yes, I could not resist that photo! Now that was a close call!

  4. First, so very thankful that you are OK! That could have gone a different direction, for sure. Second, wonderful use of that verse and for seeing God, even in troubled times. It is easy to see God when the sun is shining, but when things start to get a bit cloudy… I’m glad His angels arrived!

  5. Cindi, phew. So pleased you made it up and out of that situation ok! I’m sure your husband was concerned when you made the call, especially with him being out most of the day. Thank you for sharing and get in touch if you want prayer over a call. Marc & Catrice

  6. Wow that was a scary call sister! But David nailed it well with the horse wrangling angels, what a thought.
I had two near misses in my young life; one was nearly drowning in a public pool, the other was nearly being hit by a speeding car. I am glad to say that life is a bit quieter in my old age.

  7. Thank you Jesus. So glad you are ok. Your post reminded me of a similar near miss when my Dad was driving us back from town (I was about 6 or 7) and just as we were approaching a hair pin bend our steering locked and jammed on the car. Dad cried out as there were cars coming towards us and he couldn’t do anything to turn the car but miraculously the car slowed down, missed the other cars coming at us and stopped before we hit the other side and no-one was injured. I am sure the Lord’s angels intervened that day. I’m also sure there are many other times when God has protected us from harm that I have not realised but one day I’ll know. Thank God for His protection.

  8. Wow! God is so good! I had a similar experience many years ago. I was driving home from a Bible Study with my friend. It was dark outside. I came up to a large, busy intersection and stopped. My friend said, “Cindy, the light is green.” Suddenly, a large 18-wheeler barreled across the intersection in front of us! I had seen a red light that was actually green. It saved our lives.
