I remember as a youngster, we would always get an assortment of mixed nuts, in the shell, for Christmas. Then have to go rooting around in the junk drawer in the kitchen for the nutcracker, My favorite was (and is) the walnuts.
So as I was thinking about the upcoming Christmas season, I was astounded to learn that a newborn baby’s heart is the size of a walnut in its shell. And my mind was blown!
Jesus who is timeless and eternal, first, left heaven and became an embryo in a womb, then when born had a heart the size of a walnut. Further showing nothing is impossible with God. The thought of trying to stuff the overwhelming magnificence of the Heart of God into a walnut?! Beyond my imagination.
The heart is the nature of a person, and to know the heart of someone is to know that person’s innermost character, and feelings. The heart of God is the essence of who He is, what He desires, His will, and His purposes. By reading the Bible, knowing Jesus, and spending time in prayer, a person can know the heart of God.
No one can truly know the heart of God without knowing and trusting in Jesus for salvation.
Jesus revealed the Father, for “He is the image of the invisible God” (Col. 1:15) Since Jesus and the Father are one, Christ visually represents the heart of God, the essence of who He is.
Just as a child must spend time with his father to know him personally, so we also must spend time with God in prayer to know His heart more deeply.
Seeking to know the heart of God is a serious endeavor, as knowing Him will change a person’s entire life.
“But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.” (Acts 13:22 NLT)
I want God to say that I am a person after His own Heart!
The other cool thing is that when I looked at a walnut and found the picture for this post, I noticed it is three sided. Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That pretty well sums it up in a nutshell! Literally and figuratively! 😂😂
So enjoy the expansive, never ending supply of love that flows from the Heart of God as it pours over you today. I know I am going to!
Now I’m going to search in my junk drawer for my nutcracker, and crack open up some wonder!

“The heart of God is the essence of who He is.” Amen, sister! What continues to amaze me is how God loves us, even when we don’t love Him back. His heart is big enough to love us—no matter what!
Blessings!

Wow! to the power of ten at least! 😲
What an awesome post Cindi. God’s heart was the size of a walnut, but we know the whole world/universe could never contain Him or even His heart…which makes the birth of His Son, our Lord and Saviour, all the more remarkable. It occurred to me that your description is comparable to the mustard seed references in the gospels such as:
He presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field; and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.”
— Matthew 13:31-32
Excellent writing and encouragement (also to the power of ten!) dear sister, God bless you today. 🙏

What a great comment! Because when Jesus became fully grown, He was larger than Life, and larger than Death! God is so very, very good! And thanks for your kind words and encouragement!

Thank you for this reflection about the heart of Jesus❤️ And, also, thank you for the memories of our family’s tradition of the bowls of unshelled nuts, which enticed us to search for those nutcrackers. We enjoyed the walnuts, because they were more of a challenge to uncover the nut without breaking it into little pieces!
