Friday, my best friend and I had our favorite, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in my office. I set up the card table, put out the place mats, put out all the fixin’s and we were set. Another beautiful friend, (thanks Linda!) provided the homemade raspberry jam. Little chocolates were available for dessert. Now we could eat and catch up.
Toward the end of lunch, we were discussing what it means to look forward, and stop looking behind. We don’t want to end up like Lot’s wife! We both came up with the hope of heaven. Yes sometimes out troubles seem beyond overwhelming, but when looking forward to eternity spent with Jesus, the are just light and temporary. (See 2 Cor 4:17)
I wish I had written down where I found this, but I’m going to share it anyway, because it is so good.
At the moment of my death:
- My spirit will be made perfect and I will have a new body
- I will be relieved of the pain of this world
- I will be given profound rest in my soul
- I will experience a deep at-homeness
- And best of all, I will be with Jesus!
“He is a more wonderful being than anyone on earth. He is wiser, stronger, and kinder than anyone I enjoy spending time with. He is endlessly interesting. He knows exactly what to do and what to say at every moment to make me as glad as I could possibly be. He overflows with love and infinite insight into how to use that love to make me feel loved.”
That my friends, is the hope of heaven. That shifts my focus on what is coming so I can stop looking back on all the things in my past that hinder me.
My friend and I also discussed the deepest, most profound question that afternoon too. Will there be PB & J’s in heaven? I cannot wait to find out!

A took a PB & J sandwich to school for lunch every day, for about five years. Then, I stopped. Maybe I should start back again?

Oddly, I think I had a PB and J on Friday, but it might have been Thursday. And yes, this was a wonderful post.
