When I think about it, what God has called me to do so far has not made my head explode. Sure, there have been things that seem overwhelming and beyond my ability, but when I step out and obey, He always steps in and helps me accomplish it.
Which is what I was thinking the other morning as I was driving to work, listening to the Bible and came across these passages.
“Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.” (Genesis 6:19 [NLT])
“Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the Lord shut him in.” (Genesis 7:15-16 [NIV])
In chapter 6 God tells Noah to bring in a pair of each type of animal. Which leads me to the question in the title, “You want me to do what?!”
Living on a ranch I am familiar with trying to herd animals. Our cows are pretty good. My husband rattles an empty 50 lb bag from cow treats. They are now trained when they hear that noise, that it is time to come running, and they do just that.
We also have approx. 300 chickens who need to be rounded up every evening and put into a secure area where they can be safe from predators. At first it was like herding cats! But then they also figured it out with the help of one of our boarder collies, who runs around and barks at them, moving them along. She is the only one we can trust with this job, as the other 4 dogs want to grab the chickens in their mouth and “play” with them.
So how exactly would I go around the entire world at the time of Noah and round up two of every animal? And then how do I decide which two to pick? Insert head exploding here!
Then I listened a little more and came to chapter 7, where God got the job done! The animals came to Noah and entered the ark without any assistance from Noah and his family. And God already determined which two animals would be best to repopulate the earth later.
“Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” (Heb 13:20-21 [NIV]) (emphasis mine)
Why then should I worry about any assignment God gives me? He will equip me to do whatever needs to be done through His mighty power. All I have to do is trust Him and take the first step, then the next step, and the step after that etc. until the job is done. When He asks, He already knows how He is going to accomplish it, we just need to trust.
And when I get to heaven, I will hear “Well done, good and faithful servant.” And I will come and share in my Master’s happiness! (Matt. 25:21)
Now, if you’ll pardon me, I hear some cats outside that need to get rounded up!

Amen, Sister Super-C! When we step out, to do what God says, he steps in for us.❤️🤗
There are parts of my current job that seem ill fitting—for my “feelings on my sleeve” personality. But God keeps saying “Just show up, David, and I’ll take care of the rest.” So I did this—twice last week—when I didn’t feel like it at all. It worked!

He is very good that way. As I am continuing to learn each day as I take the next right step.

This is a great reminder! Obedience really boils down to willingness to do what God asks and trust. I love how God meets us there – in our obedience.

Thanks, I’m still in awe every day how God “meets us there!”

Me too, yet I find myself often still not perfectly willing to “go there”! I often have to wrestle with my own heart to respond. Go figure!

Obedience when it makes no sense (in human terms) brings the greatest rewards.
