It is all about me

Someday I’m going to create my masterpiece. It is a ball cap that has a wire coming out of the top. The wire extends over to the front and from that hangs a little globe of the earth. You can then make the globe spin around your head, because yes, the world does revolve around you!

Can you imagine how fun Christmas gatherings would be when you hand one of these hats out to every family members when opening gift time comes?

Awkward!

But seriously, when it comes to reading the Bible, I have employed this, making it all about me. I read the passage as written, meditate and pray over it, then turn it into a prayer, and personalize it. It has really made the Scripture come alive for me.

My small group is going to begin reading Psalm 119, line by line. I love this chapter as so much of it is the person speaking directly to God. I want to do that with the whole Bible, use it to pray and speak God’s words back to Him. For His Words have the power of life, and I choose to speak those words, instead of words of death. [“Death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21)]

So please do make it all about you when reading your Bible too! See the difference it will make!

  1. Personalising scripture in prayer and/or meditation is a great spiritual exercise, especially when you can transpose your name in…it simply blows your mind and humbles you! I am excited for your journey into Psalm 119. I am quite close to the end of my journey in it. God bless you today sister 🙏

  2. I love this! Like Alan said, it’s helpful to personalize the scriptures and apply them in specific ways to our lives. Far from being self-centered, this is all about centering ourselves in Christ. Identity matters!

  3. I love this. It reminds me of a book that Christie Cole Atkins wrote, Praying God’s Word back to Him. Christie contributes at the blog site Walk Worthy. She adapted Scriptures to make them prayers (a few already were) and she organized them for various purposes. When it comes to the Bible, we have to know God loves us so much, He would do it all for “ME.”

    1. I know! It is facisnating! 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet, and each section begins with a letter and each of the 8 lines in each section begins with that same letter! 22 letters x 8 lines = 176 verses. I mentally tried doing this yesterday and it is HARD!
