I guess as a young girl, I never got it. The whole blood brother thing. Blood brother can refer to two or more people not related by birth who have sworn loyalty to each other. This is in modern times usually done in a ceremony, known as a blood oath, where each person makes a small cut, usually on a finger, hand, or the forearm, and then the two cuts are pressed together and bound, the idea being that each person’s blood now flows in the other participant’s veins.
In the Bible there are also blood covenants mentioned. A blood covenant refers to a solemn agreement marked by the sharing of blood. This act symbolizes the binding relationship between God and His people or two parties. The significance lies in the belief that one’s life is intertwined with the other, meaning each party assumes responsibility for the well-being of the other. The act of shedding blood emphasizes seriousness, with common phrases like “cutting a covenant” emphasizing the idea of making a lasting promise.
You each cut yourself and let the blood flow and mingle. Then later if ever questioned about your covenant, you could say, “Look I still have the scar of my commitment.” It is a bond so strong to transcends time and circumstance.
Like Jesus did for us. At the last supper He talks about the new blood covenant. Then in John 20:24-28, he shows His disciples His scars. “Look, I still have the scars of My commitment to you.” He ascended into heaven with those scars. It is a bond so strong to transcends time. It is Jesus assuming responsibility for us for now and eternity.
Which makes Isaiah 49:16 even more meaningful for me now. He has written my name on on the palm of his hands!
That sure brings me hope! I hope it does you too today!

To have “blood brothers” is kinda unique nowadays. I have two brothers by different mother’s ‘ that I went to school and grew up with; we live hundreds of miles apart from each other but still remain bonded in love. Yet, the bond with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and our Father God transcends that earthly bond – God’s bonds last forever! May He continue to guide and bless you each day sister 🙏

The Lord never forgets us though we might feel alone. His blood speaks for us and our names are engraved on his hands. He will never forget us and is always with us.

This is fantastic! Thanks for sharing it! I always think about how much work must go into cutting all those animals into 2 pieces. And then with the blood going onto their garments, I always sympathize with the women who have to then wash those garments.
