Primary Colors

I find it soothing to use my 94 box of crayons and color pictures. It is restful to me to sit quietly and make art the old fashioned way. I remember when my son was little and we got him his first box of Crayons, you know, the 8 pack ones that are fat for little hands to hold onto. He was thrilled!

So when I was reading in Colossians the other day, I was reminded of a lesson an art teachers told me in 7th grade about primary colors.

Primary colors are the fundamental colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors together. The most common sets of primary colors are red, yellow, and blue.

But mix these three basic colors together you can create all the other colors.

Sounds just like the Trinity! God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. The Three who were and always have been and always will be, who created everything and every possible color combination. And can you imagine the colors when we arrive in heaven?

“We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment”. (Col 1:15-17 [MSG])

And since we are all made in the image of God, all races, all colors, let’s enjoy His colorful masterpiece and give Him thanks for the variety He provides!

And I am always inspired by this fellow blogger who brings us color in his posts.

  1. This is amazing Cindi! I was just pondering the colours of my watercolour pencils and the foundational necessity of the primary colours. Yes, you are right…they are proof of our Divine Creator. Thank you for sharing this encouraging message today sister, God bless you richly 🙏

  2. This is a great word picture. The primary colors could also represent a number of important things—with everything else being gravy. My mother, an elementary teacher, would never let me have the giant box of crayons—the one with the built in sharpener in the box. She said that 8, 16, or 24 was enough for me. My mom was right. Who really, really needs a burnt sienna? Brown gets the job done.

  3. Do you seriously color with crayons?! I knew God brought us together but having a friend who colors too is soooo wonderful! I love to color and just bought $1 Bible kids coloring book 2 weeks ago. Swoon.
