Wise Guys

Psst… buddy, over here. Hey, I’m Pauley from Jersey and I’m here to tell you, I’m making you an offer you can’t refuse. Whaddya gonna do? Eh?

My offer? Join me in living a life of single-minded passion to spread the Good News of Jesus!

“God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. For God, in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. This is the wonderful message he has given to us to tell others.” (2 Cor. 5:18-19 [NLT[)

I love scouting the thrift store for used books. The last time I found eight Christian books for just $3, total! One of them was, Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper. I’m going to share some of it with you now.

“Delighting in God was not a mere preference or option in life; it was our joyful duty and should be the single passion of our lives. God created me—and you—to live with a single, all-embracing, all-transforming passion—namely, a passion to glorify God by enjoying and displaying his supreme excellence in all spheres of live. Because the mark of God-enthralled joy is to overflow and expand by extending itself into the hearts of others.”

“We waste our lives when we do not pray and think and dream and plan and work toward magnifying God is all spheres of life. God created us for this: to live our lives in a way that makes him look more like the greatness and the beauty and the infinite worth that he really is.”

“Love has to do with showing a dying soul the life-giving beauty of the glory of God, especially his grace. Every good work we do should be a revelation of the glory of God. What makes the good deed and act of love is not the raw act, but the passion ans sacrifice to make God himself known as glorious.”

Mr. Piper also mentions how Louie Giglio is asking young people to make a “268 Declaration” in the Passion conferences. The number comes from Isa. 26:8—“Yes LORD, walking in the ways of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desires of our hearts.”

The first statement in the Declaration says, “Because I was created by God and for His glory, I will magnify Him as I respond to His great love. My desire is to make knowing and enjoying God the passionate pursuit of my life.”

“Make God the utmost delight and pleasure of your life, and he will provide for you what you desire the most.” (Ps. 37:4 [TPT])

That is what I desire the most! I want to make His name fantastically great for His glory, and I plan to take as many of you with me as I can!

So that when you get to heaven, you can tell ’em Pauley from Jersey sent ya!

  2. I found you by Devotions on the Run blog. I really like your message – that we were reconciled to Christ and we need to teach others how to be reconciled and live in his grace. Many of us (most definitely myself included) forget the Great Commission of Matthew 8:16-20 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
