I am exhausted and stressed! Who knew being in total control would require so much work?
I certainly did not realize that I breathe 23,040 times a day, that my heart beats 86,400 times a day, that I blink 20,640 times a day, I swallow 2000 times day and that it takes me 24 to 72 hours to digest my food.
That’s a lot to keep track of, in addition to what I normally do in a single day. What if I got caught up in watching and episode of The Chosen? I’d forget to do all of those things that keep me alive. Frankly, I have enough going on in my life without adding to it. Perhaps, some things are better left to the Professionals, ie: The Triune God. He has the ability to do all those things for over 7 billion people, so we don’t have to worry about doing it for ourselves. That gives me great peace of mind and reminds me I can let go of my need to control others areas in my life and put them into His capable hands.
What has led me to this conclusion? Jesus was telling his disciples not to worry about their lives, food, bodies, and clothing. “Who of you can by worrying add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?” (See Luke 12:22-26 [NIV])
Is that powerful truth, or what? If I am unable to do this very little thing, how then can I expect to sustain myself breathing, beating, blinking, and swallowing? I determined the really hard part was how do I sustain all of these body functions while I’m sleeping? I can’t! So if I can’t do this very little thing, why take control of all the other areas of my life that are also better left in the hands of God?
“I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is there anything too hard for me?” (Jer. 32:27 [NIV])
What is unsustainable for me, is sustainable for God.
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.” (Ps. 55:22 [NIV])
“I have made you. I will carry you; I will sustain you, and I will rescue you.” (Isa. 46:4b [NIV])
All I can say is thank God! That’s good enough for me! So I can now relax, take a deep breath, and leave it to the Professionals, and I heartily suggest you do the same, so we can all get some much needed rest!

Amen, well said! My discipleship mentor would always pray, “Lord, thank You that You are in control, and I am not.” God bless!

“Who knew being in total control would require so much work?” LOL!! Amen to all of this. God does so much in our lives daily— things we don’t think much about…until one of our favorite blogs points it out to us. Thanks!!! I needed this one.

AND…..by your letting go of even a little bit of YOUR control, gives those humans who really ARE in control of everything, more to control….win-win! 😁🙄

Always a blessing when we struggle with something to hear of a fellow believer struggling with the same demon. Jesus knew the hearts of men, so He warned us that we could gain nothing through worry and do nothing without His help. Thank you for sharing!
