Scorpions

Rest easy, dear readers, this is NOT another tale from the ranch! But it does involve scorpions! (So reader discretion is advised.)

Scorpions are predatory arachnids. (ie: spiders!) They have eight legs, and are easily recognized by a pair of grasping pincers and a narrow, segmented tail, often carried in a characteristic forward curve over the back and always ending with a stinger. They use their pincers to restrain and kill prey, or to their own predation. The venomous sting is used for offense and defense.

Predation is defined as: the capturing of prey for food; and the act act of robbing, victimizing, or exploiting others.

I had a dream the other night. I was taking some trash to the dumpster in the alley behind my office building. There was another person walking down the alley in front of me. Just then, a man stepped out and began talking to the person. It looked as if the person was memorized. Slowly a scorpion tail emerged from the man and stung the person in the heart. The man then proceeded to devour the other person in one, big gulp. He then slunk back into the bushes to wait for the next victim.

I woke up wondering what it meant, so went to My Source of All Knowledge, God, and asked. As I lay in bed, I got the sense that it was the devil, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8) He is the ultimate predator! The person walking in the alley was one who was easily distracted by what the devil was telling him, through other people, social media, the news, etc. The person was so consumed with what he was being fed that he let his guard down and allowed himself to get stung, paralyzed and consumed by evil.

Distracted is defined as having your attention diverted, unsettled, and mentally disordered. Consumed is to be completely used up, to do away with completely, and destroyed. It also means to eat or drink especially in great quantity.

Snakes and scorpions were and still are some of the most dangerous creatures on earth. In referencing scorpions, Jesus was telling us about the dangers and the evils in the world. It was a collective term for things such as sicknesses, deaths, demonic oppression, and other works of satan. In several places the Bible mentions the scorpion either as a symbol of terror, torment, punishment.

Revelation 9:10 says, “They have tails like scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men for five months.” They wouldn’t die, but just be in immense pain for five months! I want no part of that!

The verse in 1 Peter also says that we are to be sober and vigilant. We need to be aware of what is going on around us and not listening to the next best thing. Because there is only One Best Thing to listen to, and that is Jesus! We have to get it deep down inside our selves that He really loves us! He came to give up His life so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. (See John 3:16) That I do want a part of!

So, dear readers, please be sober, vigilant, mindful of what you are consuming in your watching and listening, and be very, very careful when you take trash to the dumpster in the alley behind the office building! Do not allow satan to sting you in the heart with his nasty scorpion tail, and swallow you whole!

  1. What a vivid and disturbing dream, but I believe your interpretation is spot on. The book of James speaks of us being lured away by sin, only to he consumed by it later. Everything that glitters (in this fallen world) isn’t gold. Yet God’s truth endures!

    Sister, this will preach!

  2. Excellent word! It reminded me of our power as believers in Jesus: Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
