Wot?!

I hate auto-correct… It always makes me say things I don’t Nintendo.

As I was typing my rough draft of this post, I thought auto-correct would choke on my word wot. But it didn’t. Apparently it stands for World Of Tanks, and online gaming platform. My use of it is different,

Waste Of Time.

(Of course, World Of Tanks looks like fun, but that would be a Waste Of Time!) (WOT vs. WOT)

You’ve heard stories of people who have had near death experiences say it wakes them up to the fact that some things in their day are just that, a waste of their precious time. After my experience recently, I’ve come to agree with that assessment. I mean, I’ve always tried to live each day as a gift, and do my best to use the gift of encouragement that God gave me to make the life of others a bit better. I pray that in doing so, I can be the light of Jesus that shines on them for that moment.

But in reality, I can look back and see how I have wasted time on stupid stuff, like being angry, being put out, being selfish, grumbling, etc, etc, etc.

I am getting better at realizing when those things pop up that it is a W.O.T. moment, and let it go. God has set a prescribed number of days for my life, and I sure don’t want to waste them on stupid stuff. So if I get stuck behind a tourist who thinks the speed limit sign saying 65 is just a friendly suggestion, or if I’m behind a person at the red light who when the light turns to green, they wait thinking there might be a different shade of green that they are supposed to actually move on, I just relax thank God that that person is helping me remember what is really important.

My prayer has become, “Help me to discard everything else, to count it all as garbage, so that I may have You, and become one with You. Because I know everything else is worthless when compared with the priceless gain of knowing You Jesus.” (Based on Phil. 3:9 & 8)

Then on my birthday here recently, in the devotion from Charles Stanley, I read was this, “Focus on what matters in eternity and what will give my life the greatest meaning and fruitfulness while I’m here on earth.”

And the next day I started reading God’s Friend by Henry Blackaby, and came across this, “Live with a sense of urgency. It will bring a willingness to obey God quickly. To know that what is done with God lasts gives us an urgency to set priorities, to live with intentional focus, and to not waste life or to live carelessly, but to live for eternity!”

Which is summed up best by Jesus, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

That’s living for eternity if I ever heard it!

  1. Spot on, my friend! I knew Paul’s admonition in Philippians 3 was a warning against WOT, but you’ve peeled back even more layers of meaning. Your intentional typos also made me laugh— especially Nintendo. Until next time, “I stole a Vega.“ I think that’s Spanish for see you later.😃

  2. Oh boy, a little bit of a triggering post here, not on your part, but because of personal perspective and experiences. The part of not wasting time on anger, being selfish and grumbling does hit home, as that is my aspiration more and more each day.

I never really listened to Charles Stanley. I caught him a couple times on TBN, but that’s really it. When he died I was watching some videos on him. I think I have an idea why his son Andy has gone in the direction he has gone. I believe Charles just decided he was not going to be a father. He didn’t have one and he didn’t know how to be one, so he just decided not to even try. And this is in essence coming from his own mouth. He admits he never guided Andy in decisions. He left that up to Andy and God. He left Andy to figure it out all on his own with as much guidance he could get by himself from Jesus. This is Charles’ own admission. And now we have Andy not wanting to rock the boat and agreeing to homosexual acceptance in the church setting. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but I was surprised to hear what I did come out of Charles’ mouth. His wife of forty years divorced him after years of marital counseling(again, his admission), maybe this is one of the reasons.

Like I said, not trying to be a Debbie Downer, just talking about what I heard and perceive. I also worked for “wally world” for 5 1/2 years and their mentality is they expect their employees to 100% of the time work with a sense of urgency. Our bodies are not made to work and function as if there is a crisis 100% of the time. We need proper breaks and time of fun and relaxation. But, no, if you have time to lean, there’s time to clean. Not, when when you’re old and tired, and taking up the slack of the employees that don’t want to do there job. Again, sorry, not trying to be a Deb Downer, I do agree there is a time for urgency. And we have to be given the freedom to choose when we are able to step up to the plate and when we can’t. And of course, facing those times when we could, but refuse to. Thanks for letting me share, you can delete this comment if you think its too much and out of line.

    1. No, I appreciate your perspective. As I know I am not someone who can cast the first stone, so I find good in what Charles Stanley has done through his ministry. His teachings have blessed me greatly. Having been married for just over 43 years, I also know there are two sides to every story, and choose to take the good that people have done, and leave the rest to the perfect judge, God. Being a judge is WAY above my pay grade!
As to living with a sense of urgency, I believe that if it is for furthering the Kingdom of God, He gives us the strength we need to get it done. Spending time in His Word, and in prayer give me strength every single day. When I do that, I have a calmness that I can be the best me I can be to those around me, and rely on Jesus for the rest. None of us have “arrived” at perfection yet, and I know I appreciate it when someone cuts me slack when I screw up. So I choose to do that for others too. Thanks for sharing your perspective, it is good to hear others points of view, so we can become better “neighbors” to everyone.

  3. WAWPS!
    What a wonderful post sister!
From the perfect wordplay in the first sentence that had me giggling, a perfect description of auto-correct…the bane of every writer’s life.
As a brain tumour survivor I was gifted a whole new appreciation of what truly matters in life, dropping the WOTs like hot potatoes. God is Good, if we drop WOTs and seek Him He will let us find Him and His purpose for us.
