No this post is not about 80’s slang. Although I do know a man in my hometown who still talks like a surfer/skateboard dude from the 1980’s. Oh well, to each his own.
In the 80’s ‘Radical’ and ‘Rad’ basically meant awesome and outrageous. The dictionary defines radical as relating to or advocating fundamental or revolutionary changes in current practices. That’s what this post is about.
I was reading in John White’s Magnificent Obsession where he tells of a letter written by a communist in Mexico City who was willing to commit his all and even die for what he believed.
He wrote it to his girlfriend as a breakup letter, because he could not waste time with her, as his cause was too important to him.
He had a radical commitment. I took that letter and made it mine own, making a revolutionary statement about my life in Jesus.
“My life is dominated by one supreme factor—Jesus. He gives me a cause to fight for, a special goal in life. For in a small way I am contributing to something new and better for humanity. He is the One thing I am completely in earnest about. He is my life, my business, my religion, my hobby, my sweetheart, my husband, and my meat and drink. His control over me grows greater and greater with the passage of time. I cannot have a conversation without relating this power that animates my life. He is my magnificent obsession.”
Which leads me to consecration. I set myself apart form anything that sets itself up against God. I do so to live for God’s purposes and to live a life dedicated to Him alone. I do so by a daily act of surrendering myself completely to His will and authority. It is a deliberate and intentional act of devotion. It is about purity and removing anything that hinders my relationship with Him, ultimately creating space for more of His presence in me.
Or as Billy Graham said, “It must be like a gnawing hunger and a burning thirst.”
That’s radical commitment to me, which is awesome and outrageous, and I’m all in.

I love this post Cindi 😁 You’re speaking my kinda language here for sure. My own way of being radically committed to God is in how I use my time; I admit I have wasted too many years in pursuing inane stuff, but now in my middle years (I hope!) I surrender ALL to Him. Thank you for sharing this encouraging message sister 👍
God bless you today 🙏

This is a radical post Dudette. Jesus was a radical Dude when He was here!! (still is!!). In not those exact words, i have been accused of spending an outrageous amount of time listening to Praise and Worship music and online ministries such as Max Lucado and Dr. Charles Stanley then sharing it with my fellow followers. Guess what……i’m just radical enough about Jesus that i DO NOT CARE!! I can’t think of a better way to spend my “down time.” I think it’s RADICAL!! Let me join you and your blog friends in being the radicalest, rad folks to ever serve our Awesome, Outrageous, Fundamental and Revolutionary Savior ❣️. PRAISE GOD FROM WHOM ALL BLESSINGS FLOW 🙏🏻🛐✝️🕊️✨
