Beholding

A friend recently asked how he could specifically pray for me. I replied that I really want to practice remaining the the presence of God more and more throughout my day. He responded with this, and so I am sharing it with you because he gave me permission. Here is the link to his blog page. https://prayerfullypoetic.com/ (Thanks so much Tim, a.k.a. A Prayer for the Habit of Beholding You

Father of Light,
You dwell in unapproachable brilliance,
and yet You call us near, inviting us
to see You with the eyes of our hearts.

Teach us, Lord, to build within ourselves
the holy habit of beholding You.
In the chaos of our days,
in the stillness of the night,
may our gaze rise beyond the fleeting shadows
to rest on Your eternal glory.

As Tozer wrote, “The man who would know God
must give time to Him,” so stir our hearts
to pause, to listen, to wait upon You.
May our spirits be tuned to Your presence,
our thoughts anchored in Your Word,
and our love poured out in response
to Your unfailing grace.

Father, let our daily living be a constant turning,
a returning to You,
so that beholding You becomes as natural
as breathing. Shape our hearts
to carry this inward flame,
illuminating every moment
with the radiance of Christ.

In the stillness of our inward being,
be magnified.
In our seeing, be glorified.
And in our surrender,
may You be all in all.

Amen.

All I can say is WOW!

  1. Same. I can sit down to work and come up for air four hours later and not have prayed a word, so… I got an app for my phone that rings a bell chime (I set it for every 15 minutes), and each time it rings, regardless of what I’m doing, I stop and pray. It may only be an Our Father or a Hail Mary, but I force myself to fully engage with that prayer. It has really helped.
