Lent is a 40-day period of prayer and fasting, from Feb 18 to Apr 2, 2026
The 40 days of Lent echoes the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation by Satan, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, before beginning his public ministry.
Fasting is the act of refraining from. Normally people fast from food. Some folks choose to fast from something else, like social media. While you are fasting, it gives you the opportunity to focus on spiritual things in its place, bringing you closer to God.
This year, I am fasting from offense. Why would I waste time focusing on something negative and take offense. That takes too much time and energy, and serves no useful purpose. It just harbors bitterness in my soul, and distracts me from the life God wants me to live.
It’s all about how I respond. (Not react.)
How you choose to behave is between you and God.
How I choose to respond is not allowing you to come between
me and God.
Let there be no strife. Let nothing come between me and thee.
Genesis 13:8
It takes two people to argue, and I don’t have to be one of them.
I have to admit, I’ve cheated and actually started this fast as of the beginning of 2026. It has really made me pause before I respond, allowing the Holy Spirit a chance to show me what to do next. And then letting go of my perceived right to take offense, has been life altering.
I can see my trigger points ahead of time and can choose not to allow another to “push my buttons.”
It has opened a whole new door for me. And when Jesus opens a door, I’m walking through it!

What a great start to the Lent blogging season, Cindi. Fasting from offense is no easy feat in my opinion. I pray that this journey is fruitful for you.

With God by my side, I’m expecting great things! And I put the tags you sent to us to include, and I guess I did it wrong, because they did not show up. Silly Cindi!

I tend to put at least one tag in the body of my post, like #LENT26, and others in the tag section for my post.
But, no worries, all the same. I’m anticipating great things as well, even though my disposition today isn’t all that bright and sunny. 🙏

Okay, I’ll give that a try. That’t the best time to anticipate great things, is when we are not sunny. Forces us to lean on God.

No, I didn’t. I have a new laptop and am still getting used to the spacing of the keys. 🤭
