I was listening to the Bible on my drive home Friday and when I heard this verse (John 8:14) I had to pull over for a moment.
Jesus said, “for I know where I came from and where I am going.” He was answering the Pharisees who wanted more proof of who He was.
But it struck me personally.
I know where I came from.
My life was a dark, sad, awful place before I had Jesus in it. When I look back, I realize I don’t EVER want to go back there again! I’m so grateful for the Holy Spirit living inside of me to help me every moment to become more like Jesus.
I know where I am going.
I know I am going to be in heaven for eternity. And that brings me hope every moment of every day. So when I am going through something difficult, when I change my view to Jesus, I can be like Paul who said these are just “light momentary afflictions.” (2 Cor 4:17) Such afflictions prepares me for an eternal weight of glory that far outweighs them. The temporary nature of my struggles are nothing compared to the lasting joy that awaits me in eternity.
So Romans 10:17 is so true! My faith comes by hearing the Word of God!
