Leave it in the dust

Sometimes you just need to let go and drop some things that are preventing your growth in Jesus.

You need to leave them in the dust.

Defined, it means to easily defeat, to go far ahead, and to abandon or leave behind.

Sometimes people just feel the need to sling their garbage onto you. We want to help them, but sadly they don’t really want help. We keep trying and it is futile. We try again and to no avail. All that does is drag us into their muck. You keep reaching your hand out to them to help them up and they pull you into their drama. It consumes all your thoughts to where you can hardly see Jesus.

We have to know when to stop.

So when I saw this prayer from Charles Stanley, I knew it was perfectly timed for me, and hopefully for you.

“Father, help me each day to let the burdens I don’t need to carry, fall into the dust, forgotten. Fill the spaces left behind with Your warmth and light—the overflowing joy that comes from knowing you, until there is no room left and no need to me to pick them up again.”

“God spoke strongly to me, grabbed me with both hands and warned me not to go along with these people. Don’t fear what they fear. Don’t take on their worries.” (Isa 8:11-12 [MSG])

And this from Parker Palmer’s Let Your Life Speak, “Each time a door closes, the rest of the world opens up. All you need to do is stop pounding on the door that just closed and turn around—which puts the door behind you—and welcome the largeness of life that know opens to your soul.”

Some things are best left behind. Step into the freedom God is offering, and don’t look back.
