Pink Slip

I always feel sorry for that poor guy named Will. You know, when in the movies, the person in charge says, “Fire at will!”

Fire at will is a command given to allow the troops to fire when they are ready. They use their discretion and choose their targets. It gives the soldier a greater freedom to time the shot with their breathing, and anticipate target movement. If the command “fire” is given, it means to open fire at once. (Gosh, I’d hate to be named Once too!)

In Colorado, we are At Will Employment state. That means that either an employee or an employer can end their relationship at any time for any reason. (Poor Will just got fired at again!) In other words, the employer hands you a pink slip.

The term pink slip is one that refers to a notice of dismissal given to an employee. A pink slip is an official notification that the worker’s position has been eliminated or that the worker’s services are no longer required. The pink slip is an informal name for a termination notice.

You may have heard of a pink slip used in a different context. It refers to vehicles. A pink slip is the slang term that refers to your certificate of title. It is the document that proves that you own your vehicle. Vehicle titles in California were once pink, which is where the term originated.

God is gentle with us. He gives us the command to fire at will. He allows us the opportunity to terminate the bad things from our life, when we are ready. He doesn’t force His will on us, we have the choice to align our will with His. (My, but there are a lot of different “wills” in this post!)

We are given the power to give satan official notification that his position has been eliminated, and his services are no longer allowed to reek havoc in out lives. We can hand satan his pink slip. And in exchange, we get the other kind of pink slip from God. We receive God’s pink slip proving ownership, that we are His beloved children.

(Full disclosure, no one named Will, or Once, for that matter, where harmed during the writing of this post.)

The only one actually harmed is satan, who was handed his pink slip by Jesus at the cross. But that was satan’s choice. One of his own making. Because as Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Because of his choice, he got (and will get) what’s coming to him.

So hand out pink slips, firing at will anything that is holding you back from an intimate relationship with God. You will be glad you did! (Did you see that? I ended using another will!)

  1. You didn’t mention the very end will……..he’s one of a kind, you know him. He goes by will, but his full name is, Last Will And Testament. He gives closure to all….🙄

  2. Haha. Yes, you used a lot of wills in this post. Now I feel sorry for anyone named Will. 😅

Yes, so many things hold us back from an intimate relationship with God, even ourselves … no firing there though. 🙂 Let us lay aside every weight and run the race that is set before us. 🙌

  3. Love this! Your mind is so creative but it’s your soul that speaks the loudest. Your trials are huge, yet you persevere at the speed of light towards God. “Will” you keep teaching me?! ❤
