Four Letter Word

There are just certain words you do not speak aloud in polite company. You know, four letter words, that if spoken, your mom would have said your mouth needed to be washed out with soap.

Well at my house there is one such four letter word that is highly offensive. Snow. I know, I know, I live the the Colorado Rockies, snow is to be expected. It’s just that this last winter the snow came on October 23rd and did not leave until April 25th.

The snow was relentless. It piled up over six feet, to where the dogs were able to just walk over the top of the fence in the yard. Shoveling was a daily occurrence, because if it did not snow, the wind blew it into drifts covering all I cleared away the day before. I added extensions onto the top of the fence so the dogs would not get out. Then it snowed some more and I had to shovel moats around the fence line to keep the dogs in the yard.

So imagine my surprise to find snow is a good thing in the Bible! (Yes, I am being sarcastic here!)

“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the LORD, “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow…” (Isa. 1:18)

But that’s what Christ’s red blood did to our sins. It wipes them away completely, so that when God looks at us all He sees is us as clean and pure.

And another four letter word that God gives us, “free.” Which brings us to the best four letter word from God ever, “love!”

God also backs it up with science too. (He made science He can use it to further His point.)

If you take a white card with a big red dot on it and look through a special red photographic light filer, you cannot see the spot at all. The card appears entirely white.

That’s what Jesus did. He is the filter though which God now sees us. Clean and white as the purely driven snow. Driven snow is snow that has blown into drifts and is untrodden and clean. Trust me, I know what drifted snow looks like!

Now I’m not sure if I have to go wash my mouth out with soap, as I did not actually say the “s” word out loud, I only typed it in this post. I think I’m in the clear. Or am I? Word is a four letter word too!

  1. I hear you with the “s” word. I love the first snowfall but by the last few, I’m praying for no more! 🙂
I didn’t know that piece of science you shared. I enjoyed your post very much! Blessings!

  2. You’re in the clear, sister. Around here, we only get about 6 inches of snow every winter. It’s another four letter word–heat–that doesn’t want to go away. I love your analogies and the science behind them! God Bless.

  3. What a lovely reflection on the “s” word…can I get away with using it if it’s in Scots? I am not a big fan of snaw either; we live in a cul-de-sac which gives me a whole load of shovelling to get out with the car.

  4. You’re good…..yet ANOTHER 4 letter word. I think that soap and snow cancel each other out……much like Jesus cancels out our sin when we repent 🛐
